In 1997, after several years as a reporter and sub-editor on my local newspaper,  the Bromsgrove and Droitwich Spa Advertiser (and a very brief stint at the Bournemouth Echo), I started work with the Birmingham Post & Mail. Most of my time there has been spent on the production of features pages for the newspapers and for the last ten or so years I have been the print features editor.

I began accepting invitations from hotels, travel companies and tourist boards etc in 2001. The accommodation or the travel or the tickets (or a combination of these) are complimentary or part-paid for. The older features on this website were all published first in the Birmingham Mail, Birmingham Post or the Sunday Mercury. After 2013,  my features began being shared with dozens of other regional and local newspapers in the ever growing Reach group (formerly Trinity Mirror). I have also started adding reviews to Tripadvisor. I set up this website in 2017.

I would welcome comments from readers who have been to any of the places featured. And I would be happy to try to answer any questions readers may have regarding destinations.
